Subject: Re: converting to latex2e
I remember Karl telling people on tex-k not to hold their breath since
it would be a few months before he'd be able to finish rewriting
kpathsea to use run-time configuration files,
I've finished this. I hope to make another release of the drivers in a
week or two or so, and then start working on the next web2c.
include the new latex2e
files in lib.tar.gz,
I may not ever be able to do this, because of the copying conditions on
latex2e. I wrote to the latex2e people about it, but they haven't
replied yet.
The instructions in
/ftp.shsu.edu:/tex-archive/macros/latex/base/web2ctex.txt
I'm sure Sebastian would be happy to update that file with more explicit
instructions ...
discuss only the base files; they don't help much in deciding where
old and new versions of add-on packages like graphics, psnfss, and
tools go.
I think it should
.../tex/latex2e/base/<files>
.../tex/latex2e/psnfss/<files>
.../tex/latex2e/<package>/<files>
In particular, did latex2e and psnfss work out of the box
or did people have to copy new .map and .fd files from somewhere to
/usr/local/lib/texmf/fonts?
We're now discussing whether the latex2e fonts should use ptmr0 or rptmr
as the base fonts. In any case, I'll update dvipsk's psfonts.map in the
next release to include the ptmr0's. The .fd files aren't used by
anything but latex, so far as I know.
